I never thought I would have to pen an article about this; but events over the past 24 hours have sort of necessitated that I address the issue head on.
First and foremost, I did not care that Noureddine Ould Ali refused to answer my questions in English as I can speak Arabic fluently. I did not care that he blew up when I asked a question about the starting line up, and I also didn’t care that he called me a sharmout as he stormed out the door.
Quite frankly, I left the Jalan Besar stadium having completely forgotten about the incident. This isn’t the first time Ould Ali has done this; he did the same thing after the Jordan game at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup when I asked why he brought Khaled Salem to the tournament.
Then the messages started to pour in.
I had no idea the incident was captured on camera. Quite frankly, I was horrified. I already had to apologise to the entire press room for the behaviour of a man who was representing Palestine in an official capacity. Now our dirty laundry was being aired out in front of the entire world.
People have asked for clarification but there is a very little to clarify. The press conference lasted all of two minutes.
I know there is no shortage of fans who want Ould Ali out. The same people who successfully campaigned for Baldivieso’s dismissal 18 months ago were upset that Abdel Nasser Barakat was not reinstated.
It seems that this particular outlet is being lumped with fan pages that exist solely on social media. It is unfair, as Football Palestine was more even in its reporting of the short-lived Baldivieso era and the current tenure of Noureddine Ould Ali.

Yes, I did suggest that Ould Ali vacate the post following the 2019 Asian Cup but it was part of a suggestion that the PFA needed to invest in a foreign manager that could take Palestine to the next level.
February 3rd, 2019: For Palestine to progress; the PFA needs to invest in a manager with a vision.
Any other criticism of Noureddine Ould Ali has been based on his decisions within a particular game. I have also given him his share of credit. Palestine, unlike their Arab counterparts, is an extremely fit team and that is down in large part to his training methods and his background in physical fitness.
Criticism is, quite frankly, part and parcel of managing a national team. So as I said during Noureddine’s tantrum, if you are that sensitive to criticism then maybe you should not be the manager.
That said, to all who think Noureddine Ould Ali is the source of Palestine’s problems you are sorely mistaken. The PFA is rotten to its core and it is about high time Jibril Rajoub is held accountable for mismanaging funds and failing to implement any vision that puts the players, clubs, and the sport first. All the former Head of Internal Security wants to do is to use the Football Association as a campaign platform to succeed Abu Mazen as the President of the Palestinian Authority.
Criticism is forbidden and anybody who does not toe the line will have his reputation besmirched.
Much like on yesterday’s episode of
Pal Sport. I found it especially hilarious that a boy that shares a last name with the PFA President could have the gaul to say that I am not a journalist. I invite him to read the 900+ articles on this site, read one of my articles published by world class organisations like BBC Sport, purchase the recently published
More Noble than War and see how prominently I am featured in it (or read an excerpt featured on
The Guardian), or listen to episodes of the
Totally Football Show podcast that previewed the World Cup and 2019 African Nations Cup.
Perhaps what he should of said is that I am not just a journalist. Unfortunately, not all of us have uncles who can give us a a television programme and the mantle of journalist despite having no discernible skills!
Perhaps Mr. Rjoob should focus on doing a better job of being a presenter on television. Learning how to speak in Fusha (Classical Arabic) would be a good start.
In fact, I think that is advice everyone can take on. The PFA should focus on doing a better job for the sake of football in the country, Noureddine Ould Ali should focus on preparing for the upcoming qualifier against Saudi Arabia, and I’ll continue to fulfill my duties as a journalist.
لم اتوقع ان اكون في هذا الموقف ولكن بعد ما حدث في المؤتمر الصحفي بعد مباراة منتخبنا الوطني ضد سنعافورة عليّ ان اوضح الصورة بالنسبة لمقطع الفيديو الذي انتشر على مواقع الوسائل الإجتماعية. اولاً لا يهمني ان السيد نورالدين ولد علي رفض ان يجواب على اسئلتي في اللغة الإنكليزية. و لا يهمني ردة فعل المدرب عندما طرحت سؤال حول التشكيلة الاساسية. ولا يهمني انه اهانني و هددني عندما ترك قاعة المؤتمر الصحفي.
بالصراحة عندما تركت ملعب جلان بسار ليلة الثلاثاء كنت قد نسيت تماما ماذا حدث. الامر كان “عادي” نوعاً ما و المدرب تصرف بطريقة متشابه في مؤتمر صحفي بعد مباراة منتخبنا الاخيرة في بطولة كأس آسيا ٢٠١٩ عندما طرحت سؤال عن وجود اللاعب خالد سالم في القائمة.
و لكن بعد مرور ساعتين… لاحظت عدد كبير من الرسائل على تليفوني. لم اعرف عن وجود مقطع فيديو للحادث عبر موقع تويتر. شعرت بالحرج. بسبب هذا الفيديو اصبحنا مضحكة امام العالم. بعد الحادث قمت بالاعتذار نيابة عن المدرب الذي يمثل فلسطين بشكل رسمي وللاسف تصرف بطريقة لا يليق بإسم فلسطين
اعرف عن حملة المشجعين ضد نورالدين ولد علي و الحملة إنطلقت بعد تعيين المدرب البوليفي خوليو سيزار بالديفيسو مكان عبدالناصر بركات. ولكن خلال تغطية الاحداث لم انضم إلى هذه الحملة و قمت بالدفاع عن بالديفيسو و كذلك عن نورالدين ولد علي. وطلبت من المشجعين ان يعطوا فرصة لكلا المدربين
و يمكنكم قرائة العديد من المقالات التي تم طبعها خلال العام الماضي:
بعد الخروج المبكر من بطولة كأس آسيا طالبت بتغيير المدرب ولكن هذا الطلب كان بناءً عن رغبة برؤية مدرب اجنبي في منصب المدرب و تطبيق خطة جديدة لتطوير الكرة الفلسطينية
أي انتقادات اخرى التي ظهرت عبر هذا الموقع كانت بسبب اداء المنتخب او قرارات المدرب و هذه الاتقادات جزء لا يتجزأ من مهنة صحفي. على اي مدرب ان يتحمل الانتقدات و الكل يعرف ان هذا المنصب غيز مناسب لشخص حساس.
في نفس الوقت على الصحافة الفلسطينية ان تعترف ان المدرب ليس مصدر جميع المشاكل الموجودة حالياً في المنتخب و الكرة الفلسطينية. الاتحاد الفلسطيني لكرة القدم هي منظمة فاسدة و على رأسها شخص لا يهتم بالرياضة و لا يملك رؤية للمستقبل او خطة لتنمية كرة القدم و لا يريد إعطاء الأولوية لشؤون اللاعبين. السيد جبريل رجوب يريد ان يكون خليفة الرئيس محمود عباس ليصبح رئيس السلطة الفلسطينية. و يقوم بإستخدام نجاح اللاعبين و المنتخب كلعبة سياسية.
الانتقادات ضد جبريل رجوب ممنوعة في الساحة الرياضية و لذلك يكفي الجميع بالهجوم على المدرب بدلاً من ذلك.
و عندما تم نشر مقطع الفيديو للمؤتمر الصحفي تم فرض الاتهامات من اعلامين مقربين من الاتحاد ضدي. و قالوا انني ليس صحفي بل مجرد مشجع و انني قد قمت بإستفزاز المدرب. الامر مضحك للغاية عندما ترى شب صاحب واسطة وصاحب نفس اسم رئيس الاتحاد يدعي انك ليس صحفي عبر شاشة تلفزيون فلسطين. كيف دخلت المؤتمر الصحفي إذا لم اكن صحفي؟ و ماذا عن هذا الموقع الذي يحتوي على اكثر من 900 مقال؟ و ماذا عن مقالات و مقابالات لي طبعت في ال”بي بي سي” و جريدة “ذا غارديين”؟ و ماذا عن وجودي- كصحفي- في اخر نسختين من بطولة كأس آسيا؟
ربما ما اراد ان يقول انني ليس فقط صحفي. لسوء الحظ ، ليس لدينا جميعًا أعمام يمكنهم تزويدنا ببرنامج تلفزيوني على الرغم من عدم امتلاك المهارات المطلوبة لذلك المنصب! على السيد رجوب القيام بعمل أفضل لكونه مقدم برنامج على شاشة التلفزيون و اتمنى ان ارى نتيجة هذا العمل في المستقبل القريب.
أعتقد أن هذه نصيحة يمكن للجميع اتخاذها. ينبغي على اتحاد كرة القدم التركيز على القيام بعمل أفضل من أجل كرة القدم في البلاد ، وينبغي أن يركز نور الدين ولد علي على الاستعداد للمباراة القادمة ضد المملكة العربية السعودية ، و انا
