Transfers involving Palestinian players have started to trickle in over the past couple of weeks. Mhamoud Eid and Islam Batran recently agreed deals in Thailand that will see the attackers play for Nong Bua Pitchaya and Bangkok United, respectively.
While it was widely assumed that the likes of Mohammed Rashid, Tamer Seyam, Mahmoud Wadi, Saleh Chihadeh, or Yaser Hamed Mayor would have moved by this time in the window those moves have yet to materialize.
Instead, the WBPL’s hottest prospect is on the move. Shehab Qombor set a record for most goals in a WBPL season last season and has been widely regarded as the best forward in the league since Oday Dabbagh moved abroad at the start of the 2019/20 season.
The Jerusalemite scored 24 goals in 22 games- all from open play this past season. Over the past three years, Qombor has scored 55 league goals and was set to become a national team stalwart until a fear of flying set in. It might be that fear of flying that led to his decision to join Jordanian super club Wehdat on a contract that will pay him $100,000 a year. The Amman based club is close to home and flying would be limited to Champions League Away matches should the team win the league this year.
A few months ago, several clubs were rumored to be interested in the striker including Hatta (UAE), Al-Quwa Al-Jawwiya (IRQ), and Ceramica Cleopetra (EGY). Kazma SC (KUW) was also in the running for his services before Wehdat upped their offer and ultimately secured his signature.
Wehdat are currently in second place- two points behind bitter rivals Al-Faisaly but with a game in hand. The Jordanian league season is currently in action and will wrap up on October 29th.
