Oday Dabbagh is headed to Scotland. It was a move sealed in dramatic fashion as it seemed unlikely until it was finally announced by Charleroi and Abderdeen this evening.
Dabbagh signed a contract with Charleroi two years ago and and enjoyed a solid first season with the club in 2023/24 in spite of tumultuous circumstances.
The Jerusalemite notched five goals and three assists in 27 appearances. His six goals across all competitions were enough to make him his team’s top scorer that season.
A move to Al-Sadd last year fell through after a transfer fee could not be agreed with the club desperate for Dabbagh’s goals in order to avoid relegation. In the end the 26 year old delivered but failed to convince Rik de Mil who took over the club in March of last year.
This year the numbers of Dabbagh and Nikola Stulic (the incumbent starter) have been switched. The forward has scored just once in fifteen appearances and has limited to a paltry four starts.
In spite of the limited playing time at club level Oday Dabbagh has been effective for Palestine. He was the team’s leading goalscorer last year with six goals in twelve matches in 2024. Those goals made him the all-time top goalscorer in national team history with 16 to his name.
Aberdeen have not won a game since November but sit in fourth place thanks to an early season run that saw the collect 31/33 points. The club will be hoping that Dabbagh can help break their horrible run of form that has seen them collect a meager four points since.
Aberdeen’s Portuguese Head of Recruitment, Nuno de Almeida, was key in making the deal happen and was familiar with Oday Dabbagh’s time in the Portuguese Primeira.
Football Palestine understands that no loan fee was paid by Aberdeen and that his wages- which are in the high six figures- will be covered by both the Scottish club and Charleroi.
