After months of speculation, Mahmoud Wadi has sealed his transfer from Al-Masry to Pyramids FC. The move is the fourth transfer of the off season for Pyramids who had previously sealed deals for Egyptian national team trio Sherif Ekramy, Ramadan Sobhi, and Ahmed Fathi.
Pyramids FC had also announced an agreement with Rodolfo Arrubarrena who will manage the side following the departure of Ante Cacic. Arrubarrena who has a 63% winning percentage over the course of his 10 year managerial career has won titles with Boca Juniors in Argentina, Al-Rayyan in Qatar, and Shabab Al-Ahli in UAE. The Pyramids FC top brass will hope he can deliver a first ever trophy to the club.
Wadi’s transfer fee, 20 million Egyptian Pounds ($1.2 Million) is the largest ever paid for a Palestinian player. He joins on a four year deal with an annual salary of 10 million EGP. As a part of the transfer Al-Msary will receive 12 million EGP up front. His contract runs until 2024.
The Gazan striker had a couple of deals to choose from and turned down Zamalek and two offers from the Gulf to join the noueavu riche club.
In his introductory press conference, Wadi said “I am happy to have joined Pyramids FC and I’ll give everything along with my teammates to deliver titles to this club. I think we have the ability to win the league title.”
Mahmoud Wadi notched up 75 appearances, 19 goals and 10 assists for Al-Masry in his two years at the club.
