Mahmoud Eid on the move again but staying in the Gulf

For the third time in two years, Mahmoud Eid has a new club. The right sided attacker who made his first foray out of Scandinavia last year, started the 2020 as one of the revelations of the Indonesian League.

Unfortunately for Eid and the other Palestinians playing in Liga I, the coronavirus pandemic resulted in the Indonesian season’s cancellation. In search of playing time, Eid left Persebaya by mutual consent and signed with Qatari side Mesaimeer at the start of 2021.

The Swedish born national team veteran hit the ground running in Qatar. In 11 starts he provided Mesaimeer with a whopping five goals and three assists and was instrumental in leading Mesaimeer to the final of the Second division Cup and the quarterfinals of the QFA Cup.

Surprisingly, that form did not produce a call up for any of Palestine’s games in 2021 nor a renewal with Mesaimeer.

Eid will now make the short trip across the Gulf of Bahrain and sign for Bahraini powerhouse Al-Muharraq Club. The club formally announced the transaction in this splashy video:

Muharraq Club unveils latest signings

Mahmoud Eid and Nour Al-Rawabdeh are Muharraq Club’s latest signings.

Eid is the second player to play for Muharraq Club following in the footsteps of Ismail Amour who had a brief stint with the side in 2018.

There has been something of a trend of Palestinians playing in the Bahraini League in recent seasons. Yaser Hamed Mayor played for Al-Busaiteen last season and Al-Hidd signed Khaled Salem earlier this year after he scored a stunning hattrick against Al-Muharraq in the AFC Cup.

Eid is one part of the puzzle for Al-Muharraq who are looking to re-establish their dominance in the league. They have also signed Jordan international Noor Al-Rawabdeh and the duo will pair with another Levantine player, Syrian defender Fares Aranout.

Muharraq will open their season on September 20th with a match in the Zonal Semifinals of the AFC Cup.
