On a personal level, Assad Al-Hamlawi’s move to Slask Wroclaw was an unbridled success. The 24 year old has lit up the Polish Ekstraklasa since signing for the club in late January and at the time of writing has registered six goals in 14 games (11 starts).
His most notable performance came in a 3-1 win against leaders Lech Poznan in which he scored two goals. The Swedish born attacker also made his Palestine debut this past March earning rave reviews in cameos against Jordan and Iraq.
In spite of his personal success, there was little Al-Hamlawi could do to help Slask Wroclaw avoid relegation. His arrival did signal a reversal in fortunes with the Silesian club amassing 18 points in 14 matches- 11th best in the league over that time period.
Slask Wroclaw simply ran out of time to dig themselves out of a massive hole. It is a stunning reversal of fortunes for a club that only missed out on the league title last year on goal difference.
Will Al-Hamlawi depart?
Slask Wroclaw signed Al-Hamlaw on a deal through 2027 and with two years left to run on the contract- they are under no pressure to sell. Reports in the Polish press claim that the Silesian club could lose a whopping 15 players in the off season due to relegation. Al-Hamlawi does not have an automatic release clause in his contract in the event of relegation unlike many of the other senior players in the squad.
That said, he does have a buyout clause that can be triggered if the team goes down which stands at 1 Million Euros.
While it may seem to be a relatively low amount, Al-Hamlawi would be the sixth most expensive purchase in the history of the club should his clause be triggered.
The Palestine international has averaged a goal every 150 minutes this season- fifth best amongst players with at least 800 minutes logged in the Polish topflight.
