Mahmoud Eid has a new club months after announcing his departure from the Allsvenskan following a three year stint with Kalmar FF.
The versatile attacking midfielder was unveiled as a Persebaya player on Tuesday- signing a one year contract with the 2019 Indonesian league runners up. The team will compete in the 2020 AFC Cup should Liga I winners Bali United qualify for the Asian Champions League.
Eid, 26, amassed 35 appearances and three goals during his time with Kalmar. He got off to a flying start in the summer of 2016- scoring on his debut mere hours after completing a transfer from Atvidabergs.
He fell out of favour last season and spent much of it on loan in Norway and the Swedish second division. After Kalmar changed their manager for the 2019 season- Eid became a key cog in the team’s five man midfield. Upon announcing his intent to leave Kalmar to club officials he found himself frozen out of the squad during a tumultuous time which nearly saw Kalmar relegated.
In 151 league games in Sweden and Norway Eid has notched 42 goals and 24 assists. He has also garnered 18 caps with Palestine since debuting in 2014, scoring one goal.
Mahmoud Eid becomes the third Palestinian player to play professionally in Indonesia’s top tier following in the footsteps of current PSIS Semarang midfielder Jonathan Cantillana and Patricio Avecedo who played for PSMS Medan (2002-04) and Semen Padang (2007-08).
